Now I know Alan voices no objection to this piece (written shortly after returning from Moniack Mhor) I feel I can post it.
Despite my previous post, and the reference in this one, I hasten to stress that I am not obsessed with R.S Thomas - give me Famous Seamus!
Bruichladdich (for Alan Brownjohn)
Seventy-eight years aged; subtle, smooth,
deceptively cask-strength with a rich
and confident palate:
fruity overtones.
The lingering aftertaste a combination
of R.S Thomas, past lives,
past wives, and I swear
more than a hint of Ludbrooke;
overtones of peat.

I'm an enthusiast for both the subjects of your poem, Brett - so I'll drink to that! A piquant comparison.
ReplyDeleteDelicious, Brett! And very clever, But who's Pete? And does he drink Lagavulin? P
